foundation, the land-use study is being conducted by Gen. Frank W. Norris, president of the Piedmont Environmental Council, a citizens group concerned with environmental conservation and land use policies in the Northern piedmont.
Initiated in 1977, the study entitled "Private RightsPublic Needs, The Humanist’s Contribution to a Land Use Ethic" involves the integration of scholastic views on land use from philosophy, religion, political scienc:, literature, jurisprudence, sociology, economics a id history.
Contributing papers xom several faculty membi * of the University of V ginia and Washington ar Lee University and discussions of current and potential land use ethics will be used to draft a revised land use ethic. The results of the study will be announced next June.
Virginia Environmental Endowment, a non-profit, independent corporation, was organized in 1977 to improve the environmental quality of Virginia.
In recent months, the grant-making organization has focused support for programs dealing with toxic substances, environmental law, environmental mediation and ecological research. More than $400,000 has been awarded to 16 grant recipients by the endowment since its creation.
