She maintained that the School Board must work in an orderly fashion and couldn’t be expected to present all the options on any issue for discussion. “We’re five fallible people...trying to work in an orderly fashion without being suspected of devious means,” she concluded.
“Being part of the initial discussion and suggesting ideas in a vacuum are two different things,” interjected Jennings Hobson.
Wiley added that it would also be better for community relations to have teacher representatives involved in salary scale considerations from the outset.
Dr. Bloomer explained that teachers could investigate pay scale options independently from the administration and School Board. Then, he said, the two groups could meet and arrive at a consensus. He promised that he would present any and all pay scale proposals suggested by the teachers to the School Board for consideration.
Advisory Committees
On the recommendation of Dr. McDaniel, the School Board unanimously approved membership slates for four advisory committees. Named to the Title 1 committee were elementary school representatives Mrs. Gene Fisher, Mrs. Will Brown, Miss Kathy Scott and Mrs. Aney Massie and high school representatives Mrs. Roy C. Whorton and Mrs. Russell Aylor. The Vocational Advisory Committee includes vocational teachers Betty Wood, Giselle Jordan, Carol Goff, James LeSuer and Edwin Ford along with citizen advisors Aline Johnson, Joel Daczeitz, Irvin Kenyon, Edward Bailey and Hubert Gilkey. The membership of the Special Education Advisory Committee includes Frances Thornton, Ellen Mustoe, Jim McGarvey, Mrs. James G. Murray, Mrs. Otis W. Jordan, Mrs. I. W. Leggett and Lisa Goldreyer.
