When the EPA Chesapeake Bay Program Public Participation effort was first being considered, there were various citizens requests that a mini-project program be included. The purpose of this mini-project program would be to provide small sums of money to organizations and committees to carry out projects which would improve the Bay. These projects would raise the level of awareness, provide self education and increase public participation through the direct involvement of people in the Chesapeake Bay.
It was impossible to include this program in the initial program for the year 1977-78. A pilot program for miniprojects is expected to be included in the 1978-79 program. The criteria and implementation procedures for this program have been forwarded to EPA for their approval. As soon as possible, an explanation of the mini-project criteria and procedures will be disseminated. Groups, committees and organizations will be encouraged to apply for a mini-grant in accordance with the procedures being reviewed by the EPA.
