The Board decided to abandon the idea of having at least part of the testing done in the high school science labs after Board member Paul Nichols reported that testing equipment would cost at least S4.800. In addition, said Nichols, the Board would lack professional advice and input with the SWCB if the testing and reports were handled at the school.
In a final item, following approximately an hour in executive session. Dr. Bloomer told the Board that the State Department of Education had called off competency testing for graduation scheduled to begin on October 17. The State Department, he said, will not allow the test to be given until after a passing score is determined. Bloomer added that a decision is expected by the end of October and so testing is tentatively set to begin on October 31.
(In preparation for competency testing, most of the teachers at the high school are staying after classes for three hours on Monday nights to take a special course in the subject.)
