Maryland has produced a management plan for its coastal resources which is currently undergoing federal and state review. The coastal management program is based on the premise that existing local, state and federal authorities are sufficient to regulate how Maryland’s coastal zone is used. The state has developed a mechanism to network these authorities and provide a comprehensive review of the proposed projects which could have adverse impacts on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. This mechanism is called “project evaluation”.
“Project evaluation” will bring all the permitting agencies and other interested parties together to assess the potential effects of proposed developments at the beginning of the development approval process. One set of data will be gathered to answer any questions about the project. The desirability of the proposal will be evaluated using a set of state coastal zone
