The school has been very diligent about monitoring the safety aspect of the construction, said Hale. Either Bill Deal, head of maintenance, or Gangel, have been present at the construction site throughout the day when school is in session. The work schedule has been revised to begin at 9 a.m., rather than the usual 7 a.m., and continues until 7:30 p.m. The roof should be completely covered by the end of the week, said Hale.
Asked for his opinion as to whether the roof was truly in need of immediate repair as indicated in the original Ramcorp firm’s evaluation, Hale said that it was. Repairs on the three previous roofs did not include removal of the gravel, which is the correct procedure, and added considerable weight, he said. Hale also corrected a statement attributed to him that his crew was working 20 hour days, rather, he said, two crews were working 10 hour days, six days a week.
