ne t londa-bred won eight stakes, including the 1991 and 1992 Iroquois ($100,000), the 1991 Dueling Grounds International ($250,000) and the 1990 Colonial Cup. He was undefeated in four starts at the Foxfield race course in Charlottesvile and had an uncanny knack for getting close in major races. In addition to his three wins, Victorian Hill finished second or third 10 times in steeplechasing’s six races currently worth $100,000 or more.
The retirement ceremony ended hopes of a comeback. Victorian Hill sustained a leg injury in the Carolina Cup last spring and was training to run this fall. His final victory came in the 1995 D.G. Van Clief Memorial — a race he won three times — at Foxfield.
