She estimated that about $7,500 is available for new equipment this year, so the backhoe would be within budget as long as nothing else is needed.
Councilman Ray Gooch suggested that the council should talk to Norman about what his needs were. Councilman Charles Tompkins supported the idea. “I talked to John and felt he was very persuasive,” he said. “I think we are very fortunate to have John. He is a real asset to the town.”
Gooch proposed that the money could be appropriated or set aside for a possible purchase while Van Dort conducted additional research. Despite the compromise, Skowronski remained unconvinced to the end, voting alone against the motion.
