Gala apples are harvested in August all the way through the arrival of Fuji and Granny Smith apples in late October. The Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Jonathan are ready by early to midSeptember followed by Rome, York, Winesap, Stayman, Fuji and Granny Smith around the middle of October.
Predictions are for a very flavorful Virginia apple crop this year. Although dry conditions delayed the harvest for about a week, the outlook is outstanding. It means that a wide variety of crisp and crunch, succulent and sweet Virginia apples are now available to select and enjoy.

Kate’s Apple Cake
5 or 6 apples, sliced
1 cup flour
