Skiffington rode first call to Sheppard for several seasons, winning the NSA riding titles in 1978 and ‘79, years that Sheppard was leading NSA trainer.
Skiffington, who was raised in Middleburg, rode jumpers from 1969-1979, booting home a total of 115 winners. His flat training career started after injury forced his retirement in 1979, with his first winner coming quickly — at Aqueduct in Janurary, 1980.
