I came home from vacation and caught up with the Rappahannock News. The article titled “Flint Hill woman receives funds to fix home” by Lawrence James, in the Aug. 6 issue of the Rappahannock News, was very well written but had some erroneous information in it. I hope this letter will clarify the issue.
Ms. Lillard’s senior advocate from RappahannockRapidan Community Services contacted .Rapidan Better Housing Corporation in Madison to assist them in making repairs to Ms. Lillard’s home.
RBH, a regional not-forprofit housing development corporation, is the administrator of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s (VADHCD) Indoor Plumbing/Rehab Loan Program in Madison, Orange, Greene and Culpeper counties.
Rappahannock County did not choose to participate in the program last year when announcements were made, and therefore did not have a program administrator. RBH has provided services to Rappahannock County citizens on an emergency basis in the past.
As in the past, when approached to provide assistance, RBH contacted the VADHCD to ask for a special allocation for Rappahannock, this request was granted.
RBH solicits bids from their list of pre-qualified contractors. RBH completed the project to everyone’s satisfaction. RBH, this past program year, returned over $700,000 of federal tax dollars back to the communities it serves by assisting 20 homeowners install first time complete indoor plumbing.
