As the townSmoves forward
with its consultant to the next phase of planning for its future, a bit of history is in order. When in response to , Mr. Walter Longyear’s committee recommendation that Trinity Episcopal Church relocate outside the town to U.S. 211 (subsequently overturned by the congregation) the members of the Washington Town Council were awakened to the change which was contemplated in our historic district.
It was Town Councilman Ray Gooch, long time member of the group, who responded. It was he who initiated the Future’s Committee and who spurred reaction to the obvious, by then to plan change not just respond to it. And it was he who has doggedly, despite rancor publicly and privately, pursued the goal of getting this community’s attention focussed on this
