A job well done
Councilman Ray Gooch and the other members of
what was the Committee on the Future of the
Town of Washington deserve credit for all the work they’ve done the last few years on the town’s behalf.
Whether or not you agree with their ideas, or take issue with any part of their report, the effort put forth and time spent is commendable in itself.
To the members of that committee, Ray Gooch, chair, Peter Skowronski, Charlie Tompkins, Louise Van Dort, and Mayor Stewart Willis, you may take your bows.
That work completed, they have been instrumental in establishing procedure for developing the town’s next comprehensive plan and are moving on to see that done.
Gooch, who initiated the Future’s Committee, deserves perhaps more credit than the others. He has managed to galvanize people into action and get them involved in the planning process, despite being for or against the idea of planning for the future.
Citizens of the town and county have become concerned, involved, and are voicing their opinions. With the appointment of Milton Herd, consultant, the Steering Committee can move forward to gather data and develop ideas for the new comprehensive plan.

While handing out the awards for jobs well done,
it would be remiss (of us) not to acknowledge
the exceptional job done by the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office in apprehending the perpetrators of the arson incident at Stuart Field last week.
Kudos especially to Deputy Connie Compton who was instrumental in the case. Her hard work, and the long hours put in by many members of the sheriffs office, did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
