Orphaned on a desolate Ontario road last January, Tigger was within hours of meeting her maker, lb her luck, a nice couple drove past her huddled mass, frozen in the middle of the road, and turned back to see what they had passed.
When Jo Ann and Stu Firlotte stepped out of their diesel pick up into the blustery winter air and made their way to the helpless three-week-old coon, they thought she was already dead. “She wasn’t moving and her coat was covered with ice pellets. We decided to move her off the road and cover her up with leaves, but when we picked her up, she started crying," Jo Ann recalled.
Stu and Jo Ann rushed the abandoned raccoon to their vet, who, by the way, treats horses and cattle, and were able to bring the orphan’s body temperature back to normal. She has since flourished.
