On Tuesday evening, Aug. 19 children who were participating in Camp Fantastic at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center enjoyed food and entertainment provided by restaurants, businesses, individuals, and civic clubs in and around Rappahannock County.
This marked the fifteenth anniversary for Camp Fantastic which is a camp for children between the ages of 7 and 17 who are cancer patients at NIH. Along with the children, doctors, nurses, and 4-H teen leaders who serve as camp counselors, attend camp. Robyn Kaye of Flint Hill attended as a counselor this year. Camp Fantastic is sponsored by SpeciaLLove, Inc.
We work with a great group from the community to plan this event each year. This year our committee consisted of Sandra Jenkins, Ester Settle, Janet Makela, Marie Davis, Valerie Ward, and Mac McDermott.
We had a Mardi Gras celebration this year. Charlotte Tummeyer and Karla Miller were there with their ever popular facepainting. Sherry Hamill-Huff brought ponies for the children to ride, and she provided the campers with pony rides long after the dinner was over. She was assisted by Alexe and Eliza vanBeuren and Robbie Hamill-Huff. Diana Corbin also brought ponies and was assisted by Kelly Atkins, Nicole McNeely and Ashley Corbin.
