Gangel also spoke with enthusiasm about the 25-acres adjoining the RCES that the county supervisors were negotiating to buy from Charles Armentrout Jr.
Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Biggs made a presentation about the Gallup questionnaire for hiring new teachers. She explained it helps quickly evaluate teachers by focusing on the qualities high functioning teachers share in common.
Gangel said that Rappahannock is now the only county in Virginia, besides Fairfax, that uses the program in their teacher selection process. Biggs said that it was a tremendous help when dealing with as many as 112 applicants for one job.
Biggs said the teachers who worked on the K-12 curricula in each subject area were asked to present it to the public on a volunteer basis. It will be advertised to the parents: September an overview of the curriculum writing process will be presented; October, language arts K-7; November, language arts 7-12; December, math K-7; January, math 8-12; February, science K-7; March, science 8-12; April, social studies K-7; May, social studies 8-12.
