The story of “The Magic Box!” comes to the Theatre at Washington, Va. Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Actor and story-teller Ritchie Porter wrote this original one-man show for children.
It is suitable for youngsters of all ages up to sixth grade — and is intended also to be enjoyed by accompanying adults.
The nine-year-old about whom the tale revolves is deprived of television for a week and forced to turn to his “old-fashioned” toys.
But he finds he has forgotten how to use his imagination.
Out of sheer desperation for something to do, he starts to leaf through a book of stories and to act out some of them with his toys.
Ritchie Porter has appeared in theater productions at Arena Stage, the Source Theatre, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He has toured nationally with the Kennedy Center’s Programs for Youth and Families.
He performed his show “The Mystery of the Muffin Man” to an appreciative audience of children at the Theatre in Little Washington two years ago.
