of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, was built in 1749 with the guidance and advice of Thomas Jefferson for Major Isaac Hite, Jr., and his family. The house served as Union General Philip Sheridan’s headquarters during the decisive 1864 Battle of Cedar Creek.
The property is open for guided tours April through October from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, Sundays 1 to 4 p.m. Bell Grove Plantation also serves as a center for traditional regional crafts and presents many special events throughout the year.
Belle Grove is operated and maintained by Belle Grove, Inc., a local non-profit organization whose purpose is to sustain the property for public education and enjoyment. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit the Endowment Fund of Belle Grove, Inc.
