“With a steeplechase race, businesses can pinpoint their audience, particularly the manufacturers of high-priced cars like BMW,. Mercedes and Audi who see many of their customers taking parking spaces at the races. ”
The amount of sponsorship at steeplechase races varies widely, depending on the meet and the companies involved.
Some businesses put up the whole purse for a race, such as the $15,000 Merrill Lynch Cup and the $6,000 Michelob Cup at Atlanta, Ga., or the $6,000 Sovran Bank Guest Cup at Fairfax. Other sponsors contribute part of the purse or simply choose to pay for a tent or several reserved parking places at the meet.
This year, for the first time, steeplechasing has a sponsor for the whole year. There are also sponsors for series of races at different meets, similar to flat racing.
