Virginia Fall Races
Middleburg gets October off to a crisp start with two days of racing, Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.
Racing starts at 1 p.m. both days with six races and pony races on Saturday and five races and a junior race on Sunday. For local horsemen the races at Glenwood Park are excellent as there is a good selection to suit most types of horses and the course generally has superb footing. As an added attraction, purses are up $4,500 this year even though there is one less race.
Besides a trophy and a purse, winning owners at Middleburg, plus second place finishers, will be given a stud service to a local stallion for the 1987 season.
Saturday’s feature race will be the $6,000 Chronicle Cup timber race which follows two maiden and one claiming brush races. The feature is the second leg of the Loudoun County Timber Triple Crown and will be contested over three miles. A maiden turf and an amateur flat race, which is part of the fall highweight series for amateur riders, will close Saturday’s program.
