contest is the $7,500 Daniel Sands Cup handicap at 2,/2 miles which is likely to draw some good local ’chasers. Two turf races, one for fillies and mares, the other open, end the day’s sanctioned program.
There will be one more event after the final race, however. Middleburg’s race organizers offer a unique weekend for fox hunters tlugfe. combines hunting with the races and several parties. For $350 a couple participants spend a morning hunting with Piedmont followed by a breakfast, thfen a morning with Middleburg followed by the races and then dinner, and finally a morning with the Middleburg-Orange County Beagles followed by the races and cocktails. Throughout the weekend participants in this program are judged on their foxhunting ability by members of the hunt and the local race committee. After Sunday’s races the final event is a drag hunt over the race course. The win ner of the event is honored as the Hunter Champion of America.
