CMH Follies Favorite Broadway musical tunes will be the highlight of the CMH Auxiliary Follies playing September 24 and 25 at Culpeper High School’s auditorium. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale daily in the CMH lobby from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reserved seats are $5 and general admission is $2.50. A buffet dinner will be served before each performance in the school cafeteria from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner is $7 per person. For more information call Judy Gore at 825-0861 or Jane Scott at 547-2675. Fund drive scheduled The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual fund drive during the next month. Members in uniform will be going door to door and any donations will appreciated.
Burke reunion planned The family of the late Josh M. and Ada Fincham Burke will hold their annual reunion on September 21 at the VFW hall in Luray. Relatives and friends are welcome. Everyone is asked to bring their lunch and come join in the fun. There will be a special guest from the Grand Ole Opera, who will join in the fun, too.
Literary series at library Professor Ann Fisher of the University of Virginia will discuss • Lost Lady, by Willa Cather, on Monday, September 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rappahannock County Library on Gay Street. This third in a series of lecture/discussions on novels of the 1920s is funded in part by a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy and is free and open to the public.
Dance classes at CCLC Dance classes will be held at the Child Care and Learning Center September 18 through November 6. Times scheduled are 3:45-4:15(ages 3-5), 4:30-5:30 (school age) and 5:30-6:30 (ages 10 and up). Betty Kerr is the instructor. Cost is $24 for pre-schoolers and $32 for school age children. Best of Rappahannock, Sept. 27 Charlie Tompkins and friends, Terry Waggener and Vincent Day, and Lorraine Duisit and Tom Espanola, all local musicians, will be featured in a live production sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community. The performance will be at the Gay Street Theater, Saturday, September 27, starting at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $4, $5, and $6.
Artists’ Forum Sept. 20 Expanding Markets For Artists and Craftspeople, a panel discussion sponsored by the Artists’ Forum of the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, will be held Saturday, September 20, at Blackwater Homestead. The discussion will begin at 5 p.m., break for a potluck dinner at 7 and end at 10. Panelists will be Cynthia Schaal of the VC A, Cindy Kelly of the Maryland Arts Council, Frank D’Serio of Corporate Arts Services, and Wretha Hanson of the Franz Bader Gallery. The discussion is open to both RAAC members and the general public and to artists and non-artists.
Beekeepers to meet The fall meeting of the Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association will be held Thursday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Jefferson Savings & Loan, 701 South Main Street, Culpeper. Dr. Richard Fell, Extension Specialist, Apiculture, VPI & SU, will speak on fall management and the use of a refractometer. Interested beekeepers are invited to attend. EMS council meeting The eighth annual Rappahannock-Rapidan Emergency Medical Services council meeting will be held Tuesday, 'September 23, at Lakeside Club House in Culpeper, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Following the dinner there will be an awards presentation.
