Guess who came to lunch? No, not Sidney Poitier. Grandparents!
The Rappahannock County Elementary School recognized grandparents by inviting them to join their grandchildren for lunch on Tuesday, September 9.
Cafeteria coordinator Judy Burke explained how the idea came about. “We’ve been celebrating Grandparents Day in our family a long time. We put flowers in the church for the grandparents and my children give their grandparents flowers,” she said.
Pat Jenkins, cafeteria manager, consulted with Mrs. Burke in early August when the menus were being planned for the first month of school.
