Gary Genther of Sperryville will teach Art at Wakefield. Mr. Genther received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kurtztown University in Pennsylvania. Mr. Genther specializes in watercolors and egg tempera, and has shown his work in several galleries on the East Coast.
Wakefield’s opening ceremonies concluded with the presentation of special awards to the school’s recently named National Merit Semifinalists for 1986: Sean Bennett, Stephen Butler, Lisa Larimer, and HankSohn.

Wakefield’s student literary magazine Talisman has just been named a First-Place Award winner for its 1985-86 edition by the Columbia University School in Journalism. In reviewing the magazine, the judges praised students for their creativity and strength in poetry. “Your students,” the judges said, “have mastered the art of writing.”
Wakefield won its opening soccer match in Charlottesville on Saturday, defeating Charlottesville High School by a score of 6-4 in an invitational tournament hosted by St. Ann’s-Belfield School.
