Foxfield Fall Races
After the success of last year’s fall meet, held on a Sunday to avoid confrontation with a University of Virginia football game, Foxfield has decided to go with this day again for ’86 and will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Located on Barracks/Garth Road near Charlottesville, the Foxfield races are popular with students and townsfolk alike.
“It’s a fun afternoon for everyone, no matter w'hat their tastes,5’ says racing chairman Steve Groat. “It’s a good place to go because everybody has a good time.”
Foxfield’s five-race card starts at 1 p.m. with a two mile maiden brush race, followed by a turf race and a non-winners of two steeplechase. Fourth race is a three-mile open timber contest with a $3,000 purse.
Feature race of the day is the Grand National, second leg in stee' piechasing’s Triple Crown, w'hich also comprises the Temple Gwathmey at Belmont Park, N.Y. and the New York Turf Writers’ Cup at Saratoga, N.Y. A good field can be expected for the Grand National as the race’s sponsor, B.M.W., has raised the purse for the 21/4-mile handicap
