Rappahannock County has been an inspiration to musicians for many years, and its small population includes a surprising number of talented ones. On Saturday, September 27, Gay Street Theater will be the scene of a long awaited event, when several of Rappahannock’s own will perform an evening of music for the delight of local patrons, sponsored by The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC). The Best • of Rappahannock will begin at 8 p. m. and will also offer special food to be sampled before the performance and during intermission.
Lorraine Duisit of Trapezoid and Teacher/Composer Tom Espinola will perform their original music for harp, mandolin, mandocello, guitar and percussion. Their unique sound draws from the music of North and South America, Europe and Portugal, and has been featured on the National Public Radio program, Voices from the Mountains. Lorraine and Tom have lived in Rappahannock since 1985.
Charlie Tompkins is well known to local traditional, music fans. His perfect tenor is well-suited for both the ballads and the faster paced bluegrass numbers that he will perform, backed up by some very talented friends on traditional country instruments. Charlie is a long time resident of the county and an active member of RAAC.
Vincent Day and Terry Waggener have performed together for many years as well as appearing with other musicians active on the local music scene. Vincent’s haunting vocals backed by Terry’s expert accompaniment have long been RapDahannock crowd-pleasers.
