A similar technique was used once before along the border of the Shenandoah National Park near Harrisonburg, with the assistance of Park Service rangers. That operation was mounted at night to nab spotlightero. Capt. Miller said that operation “might have been a bit too successful.” The dummy deer was placed so close to the road that the wardens felt that some innocent deer-watchere may have bean caught in the etj ng.
“Now, we put the deer back far ’ enough so thfct you couldn’t see it unless you were looking - and looking hard,” Capt. Miller said.
Warden Bankston said that a total of 27 summonses were issued for violations of hunting regulations resulting from the operation. All but two of the defendants were convicted of the violations.
A majority of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges in Rappahannock County General District Court, and Judge Charles B. Foley
