(Editor’s note: David S. Summers, M. D., a distinguished neurologist who now lives and practices in Erie, Pa., has family roots in Rappahannock County. He was bom in Canton, Ohio, where his parents Stuart Elizabeth and William Edward Summers had moved when his father took a job in a steel mill. He moved back to Rappahannock County with his brothers and listers following the death of his mother. The family was raised by an aunt, Madelena Freeman, in a house in Gid Brown Hollow which is now the Gid Brown Bible Church. Two of Dr. Summers’ brothers, Robert and John, still live in Washington. His uncle, Marshall Jordan, lives in Gid Brown Hollow, and several other relatives reside in the Sperryville area.
