publican senator — whose 26th District includes parts of Fauquier, Culpeper, Page, Rappahannock, Madison and Rockingham counties — said he’s happy with the status of the handful of bills he’s submitted this session.
Foremost among the legislation that has been reported out of committee is his bill that would put a moratorium on all annexations for 18 months, beginning Jan. 1,1987.
The Senate adopted the measure and now it must be considered by a House committee before the House of Delegates decides the matter.
“I feel optimistic” the House will pass the bill, he said Monday. “I feel it will be reported out of committee.”
Such a moratorium is needed, he said, because counties are concerned that expanding water and sewer services near municipal boundaries will lead to annexation.
