reter Winants, editor and publisher of The Chronicle of the Horse in Middleburg, has served as honorary secretary since the council’s inception in 1972.
The advisory council was the brainchild of race enthusiast Arthur W. Arundel and was led through its infancy by Charles H. C. “Harry” White, Rob Palmer, Bill Brainard and himself, Mr. Winants said.
Its original purpose was to create an informal organization of Virginia hunts sponsoring point-to-point races.
The council, which meets once a year, is comprised of representatives from the nine Virginia hunts sponsoring point-to-point races. Representatives also include jockeys, race administrators and masters of foxhounds.
