It started in early fall. Horsemen all over Virginia got out their pasture-fattened mounts and saddled up.
Throughout the fall and into the cold, inclement months these horsemen exercised their horses, meeting several times a week to follow the hounds, working the fat off and the fit in.
Now primed, all are poised to match skill and speed over tough terrain and towering obstacles. The point-to-point season arrives and they’re off.
This year there will be nine point-topoint meets on the Virginia circuit, as many hunter pair races and four sanctioned meets to entertain race fans or to provide festive picnicking spots for tailgaters with refined tastes.
Casanova Hunt
Traditionally the Casanova Hunt starts out the point-to-point season on the last Saturday in February. Barring any weather complications, this year’s 30th annual pointto-point meet will be held Feb. 28.
