These women, faced with little if any emotional and financial support, appear particularly vulnerable to depression. Actually, families headed by single women are among the poorest in the country and their numbers, reflected in increasing divorce rates, are growing.
Factors contributing to their poverty are inadequate finances, lack of child support payments and the woman’s inability to earn a sufficient income to make ends meet. Often they may have left school before graduating and lack the educational skills required to gain access to higher-paying jobs.
Also, in many cases unless they can arrange affordable child care they may not be able to work at all. „ The stress facing women today may explain their higher MKecvaf'depression, yet some experts argue that women are no more vulnerable to depression than men, but that the two sexes deal with symptoms differently.
