And legislation requiring hunters to wear blaze orange should help in reducing the number of senseless and tragic hunting accidents which sweep the state like an annual plague during big game season.
Many people opposed to government intrusion into their lives argue that they should have the right to risk their own lives if they choose. That may be a valid point, but as long as hunting and traffic accidents require the services of law enforcement officers, rescue personnel and state-supported medical facilities, avoiding accidents is everyone’s concern.
No matter what one’s opinion of the new legislation, we would hope that he or she would wear seat belts in cars and blaze orange in the woods - if not to comply with the law, then because it makes good common sense.
