Two pieces of legislation approved by the Virginia General Assembly this week will save a lot of lives in the coming years, no matter the arguments advanced by opponents of the two measures.
Legislation requiring that drivers and front seat passengers wear seat belts will save between 200 and 300 lives each year in the Commonwealth, proponents of the bill predict. Studies have also shown that wearing seat belts can reduce the incidence of serious injuries in auto accidents by 50 percent.
