Riders at the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association races each spring and fall are usually experienced jockeys, even though many of them ride as amateurs. It is at the spring point-to-points that many riders begin their careers racing over fences.
At the point-to-point races each spring, riders range in experience from people like Paul Cramer, who was riding races three decades ago, to Virginia’s 1986 leading lady rider, Michelle Rouse, who has just started race riding.
