She said that a conference was held with the plant’s general manager after the investigation was completed, at which time the citation was explained and several safety recommendations were made. These included a suggestion that the propane-powered forklift be replaced with an electric truck, or that the propane power plant be modified to provide for more complete combustion.
Also, she said, if the forklift was not replaced, VOSH recommended that carbon monoxide sensors with audible alarms be installed in areas where the lift is operated.
Ms. Hatchcock said that because the plant closed on Jan. 27 for an indefinite period, “it is impossible to do any further testing. It is our understanding,” she added, “that the company is no longer in operation.”
