At a recent School assembly, Wakefield Country Day School’s Athletic Director Mike Kenney announced the two students who had been chosen for the first Wakefield “Athlete of the Month” awards of the fall season.
Katherine Russo, a junior from Flint Hill, and Derek Perry, a junior from Luray, are the two recipients for the month of September.
According to Coach Kenney, Ms. Russo, a setter on the varsity volleyball team, “was rewarded for her overall hustle, determination and ability.” Coach Suzanne Zylonis applauded Russo’s play at the net and her tremendous serving ability. Russo recently helped the Owls escape with a win over Colonial Beach by serving eight straight points in the deciding fifth-game win over the Drifters.
