In your Oct. 12 edition, letter
section, Mr. T. Page Johnson of Luray correctly pointed out my error in detail, recalling ' how U.S. senators were to be appointed as per the original Article I, Sec. 3 of the U.S. Constitution. Specifically, senators were not necessarily appointed strictly from among the state legislators.
However, that detail did not preclude there having to be a consensus among the legislators as to who they would appoint to serve; and the important point to note is that whoever was appointed was intended to be a known quantity, without undue influence from “special interest”, or
