Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) is pleased to announce that Heather Cole, of Amissville, VA, has been named to the dean’s list for the summer 2006 semester. For summer 2006, 35 students made the list, by earning a grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or better in any academic semester with 12 or mare credits completed.
Lord Fairfax Community College is a comprehensive, nonresidential, two-year public institution of higher education with three locations—the Fauquier and Middletown Campuses and the Luray-Page County Center. The service region indudes the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren and the city of Winchester.

The group liked the basic design of the sign, but suggested some positive changes that will be incorporated. A sub-committee is looking into production options. As soon as we get an amended sketch, we will print it here. Hopefully we can have the sign made and installed within a reasonable period of time. Proposed placement of the signs will be on 522N near the cemetery entrance, on 211W near Waterpenny Farm entrance and on 211E near Hearthstone. This will be the final project of the Gateway committee, choired by Tbm Junk.

In last week’s paper Ona Smith was identified as an owner of Piny Rim Farm. In fact, she is a next door neighbor who visits often to keep those guys in line! In the second photo, Amanda Brown is not a resident of the apartment, but was visiting her sister for the picnic. Sorry for the confusion.

This is the time of year when day trippers come to the mountains to buy their apples and cider. I had a chance to talk with several groups this weekend and fully appreciated the joy they felt at leaving behind their city homes and relaxing in Rappahannock. The roadside antique dealers and yard sales were equally as busy as the fruit stands. These folks work so hard in all kinds of weather and make a real contribution to the special atmosphere of Sperryville for tourists. Ray and I took a late afternoon drive up onto Skyline Drive and listened to the sounds of many languages spoken, among them German and Japanese. We watched women in beautiful saris climbing on the rocks at the overlooks to get the best views. Rappahannock, with its environs truly is a gift to the world. As my friend Laura says, Rappahannock County...”a scenic masterpiece made perfect by nature.”
