To know that, surely, is reward enough.
Towards the end of his movie Gore portrays a scale. On one side is the sinking Earth. On the other side is what we must do to save it. This image conveys the lesson that whatever it takes - that's what we must do. Well, I am here to tell you that what it takes is for us to evolve from an insane economy (it is insane because it is destroying the conditions needed to support life) to a sane one. If the sane economy sounds goofy, or radical, or nuts, never mind. Maybe as time goes by it will begin to make more sense.
Rabbi Carla Theodore, a former economist/consultant for the Mutual Security Agency (now called U.S. AID) has evolved her concept of a sane economy through decades of experience as a worker educator, community and labor organizer, community educator, civil rights worker and peace activist. She is also a poet.
She created and, for many years, led the non-profit organization called Witnesses For a Sane Economy—WISE. Perhaps as you read her forthcoming articles you may be surprised to discover that her proposed solution to global warming is actually not so awful. In her sane economy we must sacrifice a lot; but we will gain much much more-or so she tells us.
