Cheryl Shepard of Millennium Preservation Services, a firm that is assisting the town with developing the guidelines, proposed that the ARB have oversight over the design and style of lighting fixtures but not lighting intensity.
Severed members from both groups continually raised caution flags against making the guidelines intrusive. Shepard agreed that spending too much time making niles that are overly detailed can distract from the true purpose of the measure.
“It’s some of the minutiae that takes your attention away from the greater issues,” she said.
The planning commission’s next meeting, which is scheduled for Oct. 23, will not be a joint meeting. Commission chairperson Gary Schwartz predicts that meeting will be monopolized by the debate over whether to expand the town’s borders to include a portion of Piedmont Avenue. The planning commission and ARB will reconvene Nov. 9 to review the final draft of the guidelines before proposing the 126-page document to the Tbwn Council.
