Following the public session, the Tbwn Council voted to raise the water rates beginning in January 2007.
One town citizen spoke out dining the public session saying that it didn’t seem to be fair to pay for a full allotment of water allowed for a town residence especially if they didn’t use it all.
“The people that use the least water, have to pay more per gallon,” she said. “Some of us are on a fixed income.”
We haven’t raised the fees for quite some time, responded Mayor Eugene Leggett, “It’s a pretty modest change.”
Tbwn Clerk Laura Dodd added that even if users don’t use any water, they are still charged a fee for being connected to the town’s system.
The town voted to raise the water rates starting in January of 2007 with a review in January 2008.
The current rate for water is around $12.00 for someone whose water usage is at 05,000 gallons. A similar usage in next years bill is estimated to go up to $13.80.
The highest use of water in the town will be about $30 dollars while the lowest usage will run about 50 cents. The water rate survey charges a higher rate for those using more than 5,000 gallons.
