Butch Bryant, of Four Seasons Sunrooms in Winchester, notes the tendency since 9/11 for homeowners to “cocoon” at home. He also notes a higher resale value for homes with sunroom additions.

Prices for these sunny additions vary widely. Do-ityourself kits can cost as little as $7,000. Most sunrooms start in the $15,000 range, without adding floors, hot tubs and other optional luxuries.

The first consideration is siting. A south-facing sunroom will offer the most sun, while eastfacing rooms take advantage of morning light.
