Wastewater Plant
Town Council members vyere presented with a rough sketch of the wastewater treatment plant during last Wednesday’s meeting.
Jason Clark, a representative from WW Associates, explained that out of three types of treatment processes, the engineers had decided on a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) for the new plant.
The (SBR) operates by processing sewage in an individual batch with aeration and sludge settlement both occurring in the same tank.
Clark said that the SBR was chosen primarily to meet the wastewater permit requirements from the Virginia State Department of Environmental Quality. Clark also said that the SBR was ideally suited for a low profile since most of the structure would be below ground. An SBR plant also has a small surface area.
Clark noted that capital costs would be lower since they would be able to use pre-cast concrete.
The SBR system is also better suited for high concentra
