Virginia, with its long, humid summers and rural lifestyle, is well-known for its porches. Once a necessity as a respite from indoor heat, porches have also always been a place to greet, eat, meet, and put up one’s feet.

By way of definition ^ A porch is a raised floor,

usually covered by a roof, accessible from the house. Most porches also serve as entrances or exits to the back yard area. j|k Patios are generally paved
