Old Rag parking

I would like to congratulate Superintendent Cartwright

and his staff at the Shenandoah National Park for negotiating a ten year extension of the lease of the existing Old Rag parking lot in Nethers. The lot has been leased by the Park since 1975. The extension permits the Park to continue for the next ten years to use a 200-car lot which it has previously designated as environmentally the best alternative for parking at Old Rag, while eliminating the controversy and environmental issues which have surrounded its earlier plans to construct a new lot on forest land and possibly wetlands at the foot of the mountain. The Park has made a wise decision.
