fall garden Pumpkin Bisque Let your guests help themselves to mugs of pumpkin bisque served hot from a cauldron on your deck or back porch while they take in crisp fall air. If you’re fresh out of cauldrons, just plug in your trusty slow cooker. Serve plenty of crusty bread for dunking. Serves six to eight. Ingredients 1 stick butter (margarine not recommended) 1 large onion (finely chopped - about 2 cups) 1/8 teaspoon black or brandied pepper 2 tablespoons flour (all purpose white or whole wheat) 1 cup mashed freshcooked pumpkin 9 cups chicken stock 1/8 teaspoon ground mace Vi cup brown sugar (or to taste) .
