The landscape of winter in Piedmont Virginia primarily features gray, tan and mud. What’s so interesting about that?

Actually, there is a lot to see in winter and a lot going on in the semi-slushy world of northern Virginia right under your booted feet. The winter garden is interesting if the viewer is interested.

If you can find an area with a dense layer of leaf fitter, you have a teeming world before you. Leaf fitter is an ecosystem in itself With predators and prey, battles, babies and all the tensions of the bigger world we stomp around in.
