The association is preparing a grant application for EMS radio support to help offset some of the cost of the radio upgrade. Settle indicated that the board of supervisors was receptive to allocating matching funds for the purchase. Rough cost estimates are in the $7,000 to $10,000 range.
Woodward also said that, so far, there has been sufficient money available from the fire levy to permit the association to purchase items that are needed by all the companies. Carbondioxide monitors and foam for fire suppression have been distributed. The Fire Levy Board and board of supervisors must approve these special purchases in addition to the budget.
Standardized training for both firefighters and EMS personnel is another primary goal of the association. Although most training funds are provided by the state, the board of supervisors, through the association, budgeted $3,500 from the fire levy last year for training.
Many of the volunteers are also certified instructors and provide free courses throughout the county.
