In Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Joy Best, 16, was sentenced to 30 days in detention, 10 days suspended, 150 hours of community service, and probation until her 18th birthday for possession of marijuana, reduced from distribution of marijuana.
Best was charged with distribution of marijuana at Rappahannock County High School in the Spring. She was expelled from school and will have to petition the Rappahannock School Board in order to be readmitted.
She was also sentenced to assist Capt. Jeff Brown of the Rappahannock Sheriffs Office with the DARE program at the high school as part of her community service. She will not be allowed to obtain a driver’s license for six months and will undergo regular drug screenings by the probation officer as well. She was also ordered to pay court costs and lab fees.
Best has maintained throughout the trial that she is innocent of the charges.
She will appeal the decision. The court granted an appeal bond of $2,500.
